The Semikolon Album Classic has no pockets, and that is entirely deliberate. Its pages are broad sheets of cream card, 270gsm and pleasingly stiff, waiting for you to decide where a photograph belongs rather than telling you. Each one is separated by a leaf of glassine, the translucent archival paper that bookbinders have trusted for a century. The cover is book linen, dyed through and stitched by hand in Europe.

You notice the weight first. The boards are heavy enough that the album stays open where you leave it, and the linen has a faint grain that catches under your thumb as you turn a page. A photograph you have to mount is a photograph you have to look at properly first.

What Makes It Work So Well

• You slow down: Because nothing slots in automatically, you find yourself sorting, choosing and arranging rather than filing. The album fills more slowly and reads far better for it.
• It stays flat: The traditional stitched binding never fights you. You can write beside a photograph without pinning the spine down with your elbow.
• Your prints stay clean: The glassine interleaves keep facing pages from touching, so you never open the album years later to find images marked or stuck.
