The Moleskine Large Ruled Notebook has never needed to explain itself. Its black oilcloth cover is firm without being rigid, and the cream pages carry that particular weight 70 gsm that makes a pen feel properly at home. Ruled lines keep thoughts orderly without imposing on them, and the notebook lies flat of its own accord, which is the quiet courtesy that separates a good notebook from an acceptable one.

The elastic closure, ribbon bookmark and expandable inner pocket are all there, doing their work without drawing attention to themselves. What begins as a blank page ends, quite reliably, as a record worth keeping.

Why You’ll Love It

• Opens flat without persuasion: The thread-bound pages settle naturally at 180, so you write without fighting the spine.
• Cream pages that earn their keep: The acid-free paper handles fountain pens, ballpoints and pencils without feathering your words stay exactly where you put them.
• A pocket for what won’t fit on a page: The expandable inner pocket at the back becomes indispensable within a week receipts, tickets, folded notes, all gathered in one reliable place.
