The Japanese Larch is a majestic deciduous conifer with an open, graceful habit and naturally conical form. Its grey-green, softly cascading needles emerge with a subtle bluish tinge in spring and summer before turning a brilliant gold in autumn. The bark ranges from red-grey to brown and is deeply furrowed and scaly, adding year-round texture and character. A fast-growing species, Japanese Larch makes an impressive feature tree for large gardens, parks, and open landscapes. While too large for most suburban gardens when grown singly, it is surprisingly well-suited for hedging. When planted closely, its growth is naturally restrictedalmost bonsai-likeallowing it to be clipped and maintained as an attractive, dense hedge of around 3 m.
