Moomin was created in 1945 by Tove Jansson, Finlands beloved author, painter, and artist. This year, the world of those stories has once again been brought to life as a Hobonichi Techo cover.

This covers design features scenes from the novel Moominpappa at Sea, in which the Moomin family goes to live on an island. Seeking solace in their new life there, Moominmamma paints a garden on the wall of the lighthouse, where she is depicted asleep, embroidered in bright purple thread on a pink-grey cotton fabric. Above the illustration, youll find a quote from Moominmamma stitched in deep pink thread: Well, itll be another nice long day tomorrow. The embroidery on the back depicts the Moomin family gathered together on the island they have made their home.

The interior is lined in an elegant, soft pink. The pockets are made from the same fabric as the cover, and the right pocket features a print of Moominpappa and Moomintroll out on a boat, hauling in a net and rowing with all their might. The tips of the bookmarks are adorned with charms in the shape of a white shell and a flower.

Flip open this pocket to find the English translation of a line spoken by Moominpappa in the novel.

The brand card features the lighthouse, one of the storys most important motifs.

The Moomin lineup also includes stationery items that pair beautifully with your techo.

Together with this Moomin techo cover, we hope youll enjoy a year wrapped in the same warmth and gentleness embodied by Moominmamma herself.

Tove Jansson (1914-2001) was a Finnish-Swedish writer and artist, who achieved worldwide fame as the creator of the stories about the Moomins, written and illustrated between 1945 and 1977. The Moomin family and their friends live an adventurous life in the idyllic and peaceful Moominvalley in harmony with nature. They are a family of white and roundish trolls with large snouts.

Thoughtfully Designed For

• Embroidery rather than print: Moominmammas painted garden is stitched in bright purple thread on soft, dusty pink-grey cotton, giving the design a low relief you can trace with a fingertip.
• Two charms, two places kept: One bookmark ends in a white shell and the other in a flower, and both stay put all year instead of slithering out the moment you close the book.
• Quiet corners to discover: The lining is a gentle blush pink, the right pocket shows Moominpappa and Moomintroll hauling their net, and a line from the novel hides where no casual glance will ever find it.
